With proper use and care, contact lenses can provide a convenient and safe alternative to spectacles. When properly fitted by a professional, who has taken the time to truly understand your specific eye health and lifestyle needs, they can provide a lifetime of safe, comfortable wear.
At our regular after-care appointments we will assess if your current lenses are still meeting your needs and, if necessary, offer an alternative solution.
Common questions
“But I have a complicated prescription so I don’t think I can wear contact lenses”
With modern lenses we can now fit over 90% of prescriptions.
- Astigmatism? We have a range of Toric lenses to correct that distortion.
- Need reading glasses? Multifocal contact lenses will save you from reaching for the reading glasses when you reach that stage when “your arms are just too short”.
- Astigmatism AND reading glasses? Not a problem: we have multifocal toric options!
We even have specialist Ortho K lenses that you wear overnight to correct Myopia (shortsightedness) whilst you sleep, so you don’t have to wear contact lenses during the day. Perfect if you enjoy contact sports, swimming, surfing or Spa days, or if you just don’t want to wear lenses in the daytime.
“I wear hard lenses, can you fit those?”
Yes, we supply and fit Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP) lenses. These are excellent lenses for every-day wear, giving excellent clarity of vision and, after a short period of adaptation, great all day comfort. (P.S. They are better for the planet too as there’s much less packaging compared to disposable soft lenses)
“But I don’t want to wear contact lenses every day”
You can choose between contact lenses every day (or night!) or contact lenses for occasional wear, such as sports and socialising. It’s up to you!
“My child wears spectacles, can they have contact lenses?”
Yes, they can! Children often do extremely well in contact lenses, and we have many young contact lens wearers at SG Eyecare.
Children quickly learn how to look after their contact lenses and, with proper parental and professional supervision, they can start a lifetime of safe and successful contact lens wear from the age of around 8 years old.
We can even fit them with Ortho K lenses, meaning that the contact lenses never leave the house, thereby significantly reducing the risk of them getting lost or damaged.
